The International Ski Federation (FIS) imposed a total fluor ban on all ski disciplines from the 2020/2021 season. All ski wax must now be fluoro-free. The fluor wax ban goes into effect – applies ski races and the National Ski Arena in Östersund. Which means a ban at the WSA World Championship 2025.

Controls can be carried out both before the start and after the finish – if fluorine is detected, it will result in a starting ban or disqualification. Therefore, it's crucial to thoroughly clean your skis/runners and other equipment.

On July 1, 2023, a total ban on fluorinated ski waxes was introduced for all ski competitions sanctioned by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation and the Swedish Ski Association. products containing C8 fluorocarbons/PFOA, in line with EU Regulations, which define the handling of high-carbon fluorine waxes.

After WSA Sleddog World Championship the IBU BIATHLON YOUTH/JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held 25th Feb - 5 March 2025 on the Arena. 

Cleaning – IMPORTANT!
To be able to compete on skis that have previously been waxed with fluorine products, the equipment must be cleaned of fluorine according to specific recommendations.
It’s also important that there’s not too high a fluorine content on other equipment (such as brushes, ski covers, etc.) that can transfer to the skis. Therefore, the recommendations also include instructions for cleaning waxing equipment and similar.

What does the ban mean for you?

Q: Do I have to buy new runners?

A: NO, you do not have to buy new runners. Just clean them according to ski wax manufacturers instructions

Q: Is it cheating to use fluor wax?

A:  Yes in a same way as using forbidden substances, doping, for you or your dogs.

Q: Will it be a penalty if I use forbidden waxes

A: Violations of this ban will be penalised

Q: Can the penalty be a money fine?

A: If a mushers is caught and if this in anyway results in a cost for the organizer of WC. The full cost plus administration of the cost will be billed in fully directly to the mushers and second to the mucshers member organisation of WSA.

Q: If I see someone/ a musher use Fluor wax at WC Östersund 2025. What should I Do?

A: You report this to Race Judge or at the Team leader meetings.
